Facebook Lite

'Facebook Lite' has just been released for New Zealand registered Facebook users.
This article highlights what this lite version of facebook involves, but it is basically a new version, based on the original version of facebook, before all the new applications, quizzes and games came into being. The new version is minimalistic showing just status updates and the regular 'wall' section of current facebook accounts.
However the article and the creaters of facebook lite claim that it an easier and quicker way to stay in touch. From what I experienced facebook was a lot quicker. Having reached our data limit for the month internet in my flat has been pretty slow the past few days. The exclusion of games, photos and numerous advertisements meant that there was less to load when waiting for each page, a godsend over the last few days when I checking in with facebook! I think it seems like they are trying to cut in on what twitter has going, by emphasizing people's status updates more than wall comments, games and photos. The relatively new section of 'top stories' headlines in facebook lite, by taking up the entire homepage.

I like this new old facebook and I see more and more people using it as it is more conveinent, in the sense that it is quicker and homepages will not be filled with 'Joey found a lost cow' and people will instead be able to see what their 'friends' are up to as soon as they sign in.
