Cyworld

Luke mentioned about 'Cyworld' in lectures week one and six, and as a cyworld user myself, here's brief information. Cyworld is South Korea's creation of a social networking website operated by SK Communications. It provides a space very much like the widely used sites Facebook, Myspace and Bebo. With Cyworld, user can connect with friends, share photos, vedios, sketches and blogs, and create an avatar called 'Minime' and a virtual Miniroom.

Cyworld, is like a virtual space in the internet which users can design their 'Miniroom' and invite and connect with friends. The members of Cyworld are able to develop online relationships by forming relationships with other members of Cyworld through a service called "minihompy" It is like a mini-homepage that contains options such as profile, diary, photo gallery, video gallery, message board, guestbook, friend list, and personal bulleting board. Any member of Cyworld user can interact with another member via minihompy if they accept each other to form buddies.

Reports show that 90 percent of South Koreans in their 20s and 25 percent of the total population of South Korea are registered as users of Cyworld. Today, cyworld has extended its operation to the United States, China, Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam making its way in the cyberspace.
